Jeans Care Mistakes That Are Ruining Your Denim
September 13, 2026 · Admin
Most damage to jeans doesn't come from a single dramatic mishap — it builds up gradually from small, everyday care habits that seem harmless at the time.
Washing Too Often
Every wash cycle puts denim through friction and agitation that gradually fades color and weakens fibers. Over-washing is one of the fastest ways to age a pair prematurely.
Using Hot Water
Hot water accelerates dye loss and can shrink jeans unevenly, especially in blends with elastane. Cold water is almost always the safer choice.
Skipping the Inside-Out Step
Washing jeans right-side out exposes the dyed surface directly to friction against the machine drum and other clothes — a simple flip before washing meaningfully reduces fading.
Over-Drying
High heat in the dryer is one of the most damaging habits for denim, breaking down elastane fibers and shrinking fit over time. Air-drying, even just occasionally, extends the life of jeans significantly.
